Meet the Board of Trustees

Michele McConnell, President

 Michele is a an accomplished actor and soprano, currently playing Carlotta Giudicelli in the Broadway prodution of Phantom of the Opera. Michele has traveled to over 115 countries performing on luxury cruise ships with her husband, baritone Duane McDevitt, and serves on the musical theatre faculty at New Jersey City University. She is a 2010 Bistro Award winner and a proud Mary Kay Independent Sales Director.

Joshua Levine, Vice- President

Joshua Levine is an accomplished lawyer and native of Fair Lawn. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and Seton Hall Law School and now practices business law with Levine Law Firm, LLC, in Fair Lawn.  Josh has had a  lifelong interest in both the arts and in his community. He lives in Bergen County with his wife and two children.

Elizabeth Marsh, Secretary

Elizabeth is a tenured college professor at Bergen Community College and a developmental educator; she is  an advocate for community college students. She has also performed and contributed backstage at many of the area's best community theatres. She joined the Skyline board after being an active volunteer with the company for a few seasons.

Gerald Appelstein

Jerry is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Chemical Engineering and has been a Vice President at Tauber Oil Company since 1998. Jerry is the father of two daughters, Jessica & Janna. He is active in a wide range of philanthropic pursuits. Jerry is the past Chairman of the Board of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, a trustee of both the Joyce Theatre Foundation and the NJ Symphony Orchestra, and serves on the board of directors of the MIT Alumni Association. He is a major supporter of all aspects of dance in NYC and was honored, along with Liza Minnelli, by the Career Transitions For Dancers organization for lifetime achievement in support of dance.

Tom Freeswick

Tom is a retired administrator in the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District, where he worked with founders Sam Scalamoni and Harry Berkheiser as they brought The Arts Trust/Skyline Theatre Company to the students in the Theatre Arts and the Communications University Programs.  He has been on the board since his retirement in 2008. He and his wife, Carol, enjoy six grandchildren and trips into the city for Broadway shows and concerts.  He performs with The North Jersey Chorus and his church choir.

Duane McDevitt

Duane is a man of many talents, having performed, designed scenery, created graphics, and run the website for Skyline for many seasons.  He has recently added stage managing to his list of skills at Westchester Broadway Theatre.  He is an adjunct faculty member at New Jersey City University. He is married to Michele McConnell, who inspires him daily.

Dennis O'Connell

A 1962 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Denny served as a pilot in the USAF for 25 years and flew for TWA for 32 years. He was also a Flight Safety Instructor for 9 years.  Currently, he is the Operations Director for an Air Limousine Service.

Tim Smith

Tim is a lifelong stage performer, in addition to being a business entrepreneur and a constant supporter of various arts, education and other non-profit organizations.  He is the founder of The Comprehensive Group in Parsippany, NJ, and the Roxbury Performing Arts Center.
