The 2015  winner was David Merkle, a senior at Glen Rock High School.  David is very active in his school’s theatre scene having performed in all the musical and dramatic productions in his four years and serving as an officer on the Theatre Company’s board.  Most recently he played The Beast in  Beauty and the Beast, Maxwell Smart in Get Smart,  and as two different characters, Joe Gargery and Herbert Pocket, in Great Expectations.  For his school’s recent show, Romance & Reverie: An Evening of One-Act Plays, David was a student director for the play Arabian Nights by David Ives, which was selected by his school’s theatre program to perform at the Bergen Community College Teen Arts Festival next month.  When he’s not working with the theatre company, David spends much of his time writing.  David acts as the Editor-in-Chief of Glen Rock High School’s literary magazine, Mobius, and is an active participant in his school’s Playwriting Residency with Kean University.  Of all his arts involvement, David is most passionate about writing and storytelling, and he’s thrilled to be continuing his education next year at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a major in Dramatic Writing.  David would to like to thank Skyline for this recognition and scholarship.
