This summer, Skyline Theatre Company put on our second annual Musical Theatre Summer Camp for young performers, though this time around, we had a game changer: Bloomfield Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs.
For one week, 23 young performers worked with NYC-based actor, writer, stage manager, and teaching artist, Elizabeth Robbins, to write, rehearse and perform their own musical, as well as learn some fundamentals of performance. The week ended with the students performing for their families and Skyline staff who were all blown away by the shows. Skyline’s own Artistic Director, Sam Scalamoni, said, “What a thrill to see these young performers blossom in just one short week! The room was filled with a Broadway vibe! We were so lucky to have the level of Elizabeth Robbins as our teaching artist.”
We owe so much to our partnership with the Bloomfield Recreation Department who made this summer camp possible, offering space and administrative support so we at Skyline could focus on our strength: making Broadway accessible to any interested youth, here in New Jersey. Boy did they deliver!
